Freedom Has Become a Luxury
Not because someone took it from us, but because we traded it away for comfort. For a peace that isn’t peace, but cushioned passivity in front of a screen. For a safety that isn’t safety, but routine – an illusion that we are protected. We built our own prison, from the inside, for the sake of a so-called calm that only postpones the moment we fall apart. While algorithms decide our emotions and calendars regulate our breathing.
Freedom has always been a struggle. Never a gift, never a privilege. Always sweat, risk, and persistence.
But once, we knew who we were fighting. Today, the enemies are invisible: debt, high expectations, anxiety, exhaustion, quiet despair… In a world without focus, a person stops wanting, stops planning, stops believing. Left only with survival, day after day, until they forget they ever had a choice. A prison with no bars – built within.
Perhaps freedom today means refusing. Saying no even when it feels like you’re losing everything by doing so. Not accepting what soothes you but empties you. Stopping and saying: enough. Not to destroy a system, but to reclaim the feeling that you still exist.
This isn’t the romantic freedom from films, with wind in your hair and the horizon ahead. It’s the freedom that hurts because you had to earn it yourself. The kind where you question, fall, endure – yet never stop searching for meaning. Freedom is not escape – it is a return. To yourself, to others, to truth, no matter how harsh.
And if truth can destroy us, then let it. Better to be shattered than lulled by a lie. Better to be stripped bare than gently put to sleep.
In a time when everything has become improvisation, the only rebellion left is to remain alive in your own way – to believe in something, even if that something is only tomorrow. Because in the end…
Freedom begins when you stop asking permission for it.
